Motor Neuron Disease (MND) is a group of progressive neurological disorders characterized by degeneration of motor neurons, the nerve cells responsible for controlling voluntary muscles. The term 'Motor Neuron Disease' is commonly used in the UK and other countries, while in the US, the condition is often referred to as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), which is the most common form of MND. MND includes several variants affecting upper and/or lower motor neurons, leading to muscle weakness and atrophy.
