Idiopathic Dilated Cardiomyopathy
๐Overview
Idiopathic Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a form of dilated cardiomyopathy where the heart's main pumping chamber (left ventricle) becomes enlarged and weakened without an identifiable cause. 'Idiopathic' indicates that no specific underlying reason such as coronary artery disease, hypertension, or valvular disease is found. It is a subset of dilated cardiomyopathy, a condition characterized by dilation and impaired contraction of the left or both ventricles leading to systolic dysfunction.
