Group B Streptococcal Septicemia of the Newborn is a serious bloodstream infection caused by the bacterium Streptococcus agalactiae (Group B Streptococcus, GBS) occurring in newborn infants. It is a form of early-onset or late-onset neonatal sepsis and is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in neonates. The modern preferred term is neonatal Group B Streptococcal sepsis or neonatal GBS infection.
