Geographic Tongue
๐Overview
Geographic tongue, also known as benign migratory glossitis, is a common inflammatory condition that affects the dorsal and lateral surfaces of the tongue. It is characterized by irregular, smooth red patches where filiform papillae have been lost, often surrounded by slightly raised white or yellowish borders.
This condition is benign and non-contagious, frequently presenting without symptoms in many individuals. Although the map-like appearance may shift or change over time, it is not associated with infection or oral cancer.
