๐Overview
Ectropion is a clinical condition where the eyelid margin turns outward, a malposition that most frequently affects the lower eyelid. This eversion exposes the delicate inner surface of the lid, which can lead to ocular irritation, dryness, and discomfort due to improper tear distribution across the eye surface.
This ophthalmologic presentation may occur due to various factors, including tissue changes often associated with aging or structural issues within the eyelid. While it is more commonly observed in older adults, the condition can also manifest in association with specific congenital syndromes or other underlying clinical causes.
