๐Overview
The Common Cold is a viral infection of the upper respiratory tract, primarily affecting the nose and throat. While frequently caused by rhinoviruses, other pathogens such as coronaviruses, adenoviruses, and respiratory syncytial virus can also trigger this clinical syndrome, which is characterized by nasal congestion, a runny nose, sore throat, and cough.
Although the infection is generally self-limited, it remains a frequent reason for healthcare visits and school or work absences. Healthy adults may experience several infections annually, whereas infants and young children often encounter these infections more frequently due to developing immune systems.
