Aortic Stenosis occurs when the valve between the lower left heart chamber and the main artery becomes constricted, which may limit the volume of blood delivered to the systemic circulation. This narrowing can force the heart to exert more pressure to move blood through the valve, potentially impacting cardiac function.
This condition is a common form of valvular heart disease and is often identified in older adults, though it may also be present from birth. It involves structural changes that prevent the valve leaflets from opening sufficiently during the heart's contraction.
