Adenosine Deaminase Severe Combined Immunodeficiency
ADA-SCID
๐Overview
Adenosine Deaminase Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (ADA-SCID) is a rare genetic disorder characterized by a deficiency of the enzyme adenosine deaminase (ADA), leading to severe impairment of the immune system. ADA-SCID is a subtype of Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID), a group of disorders causing profound defects in both T-cell and B-cell immunity. This condition results in extreme vulnerability to infections early in life. ADA deficiency leads to toxic metabolite accumulation that damages lymphocytes, causing immune failure.
